The Opportunity

This role presents a professional and impactful opportunity for an experienced Obstetrician/Gynaecologist to contribute to high-quality maternal, neonatal, and child healthcare within a humanitarian context. As Senior Medical Officer at Save the Children’s Maternal and Child Hospital in Teknaf, the incumbent will lead the management of high-risk pregnancies and obstetric emergencies, provide specialized clinical care, and strengthen the capacity of medical teams through mentorship and supervision. The position offers the chance to work in collaboration with local health authorities and technical partners, influence service delivery standards, and make a measurable impact on maternal and child health outcomes in one of the most challenging and underserved settings.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of independent practice as an Obstetrician/Gynaecologist (without supervision).
  • MBBS degree recognized by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC), with 2 years of post-graduate training, including at least 1 year of experience in obstetrics and gynaecology.
  • Valid and current licence and registration to practice medicine.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to remote, insecure, or unstable locations as required.
  • Experience in managing obstetric and gynaecological complications commonly encountered in humanitarian emergencies, such as infectious diseases in pregnancy and the clinical management of rape.
  • Familiarity with the Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP) for reproductive health in humanitarian settings.
  • Certification or training in Advanced Life Support (ALS), Paediatric Life Support (PLS), and Neonatal Life Support (NLS), or equivalent qualifications.
